You can hardly have missed the fact that a new Ghostbusters film has just been released. The decision to remake the original 1984 classic proved controversial to some fans – as did the inclusion of
all-female leads – but one vital detail did remain. Right from the start the film’s production team knew that the Ghostbusters’ Cadillac had to be included. The original film featured a scruffy black 1959 Cadillac series 75 with Futura combination hearse/ambulance coachwork by
Miller Meteor; it was soon converted into a stunning white and red ambulance known as Ecto 1. The new film has the new Ecto 1 portrayed by a red over black 1984 Cadillac hearse that subsequently gets converted into a red and white ghostmobile.
Mike Barr and Ciaran McKay run Star Car Hire (www.starcarhire.co.uk/028 2858 3500) supplying specialist vehicles for filming, weddings and promotional events across the UK. Mike is no stranger to TV and movie cars, his garage being home to, among others, a Starsky and Hutch Gran Torino, Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am and a Dukes of Hazzard General Lee. This Ecto 1 is the newest addition to their fleet.
