Young Yank owners

In response to your article about Jay Mould’s Mustang, you were asking for young Yank owners. Well I got my ’64 F100 step-side at the age of 19.

I have recently turned 20 and love owning such a beast of an American car. As you stated in the article, insurance is a problem for young classic owners. Even though I have never had a scrape in my daily driver, no one will insure me unless I want to pay £2000 for 1500 miles. Do you know where Jay gets his insurance? Any help would be gratefully accepted.

Well Simon, we’ve had a fantastic response to our appeal for younger Yank owners to get in touch; last month’s Readers' Rides (and next month’s too!) saw just a couple of our younger readers’ vehicles. As for insurance, this is a perennial problem; however, there are always ways to lower the premium, such as going for a vehicle with a six-cylinder engine, agreeing limited mileage and belonging to a club. Don’t forget it pays to shop around for a quote.
