Wakey Wakey!
By:
It’s time to come out of hibernation, whip off those dust sheets, pump up those tyres and hook up that battery! Yes, spring is in the air and to get you in the mood is our annual summer show wallplanner.
On it you’ll find highlighted the seven heats of this year’s Footman James Car of the Year competition, along with a number of other events or businesses which we think will be of interest to readers.
Starting on page 100 are four pages of events and cruises for the coming year, so even if you don’t fancy a long distance trek to a big national show, there’s bound to be something a bit more local to you. Do let us know if any of these dates, venues or cruises are incorrect or require updating – we can only update them with your input and help!
Continuing the Car of the Year theme, three of the feature cars in this month’s magazine (‘49 Olds, ‘65 Corvair and ‘71 Road Runner) were finalists in last year’s competition and apart from being credits to their owners, they also illustrate the extremely high standard of American cars in the UK today. It was a real pleasure to have the cars and their owners on the stand at the Classic Motor Show at the NEC last year and they did a great job flying the flag for the American car scene in the UK.
The coming summer promises to be an exciting one both nationally and for the American car scene in general; there seems to be a general feeling that we may be emerging finally from the difficult economic times we’ve all been experiencing recently, and hopefully that will be reflected in a rejuvenated American car scene.
Last month we reported on the sad news that Tony Beadle, Classic American’s founding editor had passed away; this month we celebrate his life on page 58 with memories and anecdotes from those who knew him and worked with him. Thank you Tony for everything you did for the UK American car scene, you’ll be sadly missed.
