Star Letter: Car-less whispers
16 May 2013
Dear Classic American,
Whenever I’m reading Classic American I always wonder how many people are reading it in my situation; yet to step on the Yank owning ladder, but carefully planning it out in their mind to one day acquire their dream car.
Star Letter: More tech stuff, please!
18 April 2013.
Dear Classic American,
I have been a subscriber for many years now, but was getting a bit fed up with the way the magazine was going about a year ago. However, you have really turned it around recently – I love the technical tips.
25 not out!
18 April 2013.
Dear Classic American,
I am delighted to see that Classic American has achieved 25 years and with only three editors in all that time, so one hell of a publishing achievement! It was nice to read that you acknowledged Tony Beadle's contribution too – can it really be a year since he passed on?
Can Am memories
22 March 2013.
Dear Classic American,
Regarding Keith Bloomfield’s letter about the UK’s oldest American car club, I belonged to the Can Am club back in 1973 to 1975 and it arranged a show in 1974 down at Beaulieu motor museum and had competitions in the arena. One involved the driver being blindfolded and driving around obstacles with a passenger giving directions and with a glass of water on the bonnet and another one a wheel changing competition which I won and I was presented with a book from Lord Beaulieu, I hope this helps with the history of the club.

Star Letter: Buying your first American car
22 March 2013.
Dear Classic American,
I have been a reader of your fabulous magazine since the first issue (having every issue since number one!) when last year I decided to finally purchase a classic for myself as the children are grown and finances have permitted. I decided on a 1957 Chevy Bel Air which I have loved since my first car, a 1960 Ford Consul. Using your magazine I determined that parts supply for this model is excellent both here and in the US.
Javelin man
20 February 2013.
Dear Classic American,
I would like to thank you for enlightening everyone about the AMC Javelin, on page 36 of the January 2013 issue.
Oldest American car club?
20 February 2013.
Dear Classic American,
“The National Can-Am Car Club is the oldest continually running American car club still in existence and is still going strong." Why do I believe this to be true? Well, I first joined the Can-Am club back in 1993 running a 1979 T-Bird for a few years, before being tempted over to one of Dr Porsche’s designs. I escaped from the dark badlands of German cars and have been back with Yanks for about two years now. I’ve seen the error of my ways and now am having great fun with our 1979 Firebird; seems like I’m stuck in the Seventies somehow.
Sexy night shoot
17 January 2013.
Dear Classic American... December’s issue featuring the 1964 Chevelle deserves, I feel, a special mention; up until recently I’ve never been a big fan of Sixties American iron, being more into Fifties and early Seventies cars and trucks. I’m now, however, coming round to appreciating the clean sharp lines of Sixties automobiles, with that particular car in question being an especially fine example.
Estate⦠or wagon?
17 January 2013.
Dear Classic American... Regarding your earlier debate in the letters pages about whether GM’s wagons were called ‘estate cars’ or ‘wagons’ for a particular reason – I can tell you that in the Oshawa car plant where they were built, we always called them wagons.
Yoof culture
18 December 2012.
Dear Classic American... In the October 2012 issue Huw Evans wrote about how car culture has changed over the generations. By coincidence, while wandering around the Damn Yankees show at North Weald (also featured in the magazine), it also struck me that traditional American cars were obviously designed to make an impression – you’d be proud to drive one – while modern cars try hard to be bland.
