Dear Classic American...
20 January 2011
Dear Classic American,...Can you help please. I am one of the organisers of our village fete and each year we have a theme which for 2011 is going to be ‘Las Vegas’.
Falcon heaven
16 December 2010.
Dear Classic American,
I have just returned from Denver after a business trip and while tracking down some spares for my ’64 Falcon Sprint I was directed to a hoard of Falcons in Golden Colorado which is effectively a suburb of Denver. I don’t think I have ever seen so many Falcons for sale in one place! As well as complete cars for sale (going from fully restored to rust buckets only the very brave would tackle!) there was also a back lot full of cars being parted out.
Spot on advice
16 December 2010.
Dear Classic American,
I thought your advice to the reader who is looking to purchase a Sixties or Seventies muscle car was spot on. I was in exactly the same position when I decided the time was right to purchase my first yank with about the same budget of 12k. I looked at many Mustangs, Challengers and Chargers, but all the good ones were way out of my price range.
Star Letter - Chrysler problems
18 November 2010.
Dear Classic American,... I’m writing in regarding the problems your contributor Ed Hall has been having with his Chrysler, I would guess you have almost answered your own question. It’s the timing chain. The easy way to check the valve timing is as follows. Remove both rocker boxes, turn the engine to T.D.C. firing number one.
A couple of errors...
18 November 2010.
Dear Classic American,... A couple of errors in the August 2010 issue of ‘Over Here’. Chrysler introduced push-button transmission in 1956 (mechanically operated,) while Packard’s 1956 push-button transmission was electrically operated. In 1955 Chrysler’s automatic was operated by a lever on the dash.
Horsepower
21 October 2010.
Dear Classic American...I have noticed over the years, when it comes to pre-war cars, there seems to be a little confusion over the difference between brake horsepower and taxable or RAC horsepower.
Star Letter - Dear Classic American
21 October 2010.
I would like to bring to your attention what I think is an irregularity with one of your advertisers. I appreciate this puts you in a bit of a position, but if you have any loyalty to your readers you will publish my caution.
Music Mistakes
16 September 2010.
I quite like the idea of including articles on music within the mag, but please, if you're going to do it, can you make sure some of the facts are accurate? In your Gene Vincent article, Gene's death was reported as 1970 - no, it was in 1971.
Star Letter - Top Gear or Top Twits?
16 September 2010.
I know Top Gear is a very popular TV show, but for the hell of me I cannot stand that Yorkshire bigot Clarkson... I must firstly stress that he ain’t your typical Yorkie.
Over the Top
19 August 2010.
I have been reading your magazine since 1999 when I was looking to purchase my first American car. Over the years I have enjoyed the articles and most of all the cars, but lately it all seems to be getting a bit ‘over the top’
